Personal profile

Dr Oluwasoye P. Mafimisebi FCMI FHEA CMBE is a highly ambitious, motivated and multi-award-winning Associate Professor & Reader in Strategic Management, Risk & Resilience; and Faculty Head of Research at Faculty of Business and Law, Leicester Castle Business School, ºÚÁÏÍø (ºÚÁÏÍø). I am the Research Degrees Leader for Business and Law and Chair of the Faculty Research Degrees Sub-Committee. In addition, I am also PhD Director of Studies and PhD Programme Director  - Business & Management Studies, Leicester Castle Business School and active Research Leader in Strategy, Risk and Resilience. As such, I lead and manage all aspects of the research activity and PGRs (PhD/DBA) programmes with the view of continuous improvement. Prior to joining ºÚÁÏÍø, I have held senior managerial positions at Standard Chartered Bank, Diamond Bank Plc, Treasure Global Group, African Alliance Insurance Plc, Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc, and Cornerstone Insurance Plc. In particular, I have held various leadership roles in banking/insurance industry and professional practice such as – Chief Risk Officer, Senior Risk Manager, Risk Manager, Wealth Manager-in-charge of various assignments, and Head of Finance. 

As a Research Leader with substantial experience and international standing, I have served in many advisory positions including board member of various organizations, and consultants to regional and national governments in Africa. Moreover, I maintain close links with industry via professional body memberships, knowledge transfer programmes and consultancy. Over the past recent decade, my teaching and research interests have been driven by my several years of experience in banking, insurance, small businesses, consulting and professional practice. My research engages with the sub-discipline of international business, enterprise and strategy focusing specifically on strategy, risk and resilience of multinational organizations. I serves as Chair of Scientific Committee for the Business Resilience Network – comprising of academics from South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, USA, United Kingdom, Botswana, Kenya, and Rwanda. I am also Chair of Fintech Innovation Network, Co-Chair of African Entrepreneurship Research Cluster, and Co-Chair of Development, Conflict and Development leading several team of researchers drawn from national and international standings.

I have an outstanding and sustained national and international research profile and recognition. For example, I have consistently published in many journals of international repute including Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Journal of General Management, Strategic Change, FIIB Business Review, Review of Management Literature, Journal of Emergency Management, International Journal of Mass Emergencies & Disasters, etc. My standing in the global academic community is further reflected in my Editorship, International Board Member and Reviewer for several journals. I served as Associate Editor – Journal of Management & Organization (University of Cambridge Press); and Senior Consulting Editor – Review of Management Literature Journal (Emerald Publishing) as well as International Editorial Board Member/Reviewer – Journal of Management & Organization; Journal of General Management; Journal of Business Ethics; Multinational Business Review; FIIB Business Review; Global Business Review; Africa Journal of Management; Journal of Environmental Management; Technological Forecasting & Social Change; Management Decision; Development in Practice Business Perspectives and Research. I have published over 30 papers many in world leading academic journals.

My published works and recent projects span across risk/crisis management, business continuity, organizational resilience, crisis communication, entrepreneurship education, apprenticeship, ethical evaporation, fintech, strategy, entrepreneurship and innovation. Collectively, my research focuses on risk/crisis, resilience, management and entrepreneurship from an interdisciplinary perspective. I welcome PhD research proposals that align with these areas of research. My research has attracted several grants including Global Challenge Research Fund and produced high-quality outputs widely published in reputable international journals.

I have won several awards and was recently awarded Research Oscars: PGR Supervisor of the Year 2022; Award for Excellence in Research Supervision 2020; Early Career Researcher of the Year 2019; Future Research Leader’s Award 2019-2020; PGR Supervisor of the Year 2020 (Highly Commended) and nominated for the Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award 2019, 2020, & 2021. My teaching focuses on crisis, resilience and business continuity management, innovation, organisational management and strategy. I emphasized personal development and experiential learning approach to education and remain a firm believer in research impact and commercialisation of research and innovation.

I hold PhD in Strategy, Enterprise and Innovation, MSc (Distinction) in Risk Management, PGCert in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, BA (Hons) Global Business Management, HND (Distinction) in Risk Management/Insurance, HND in Safety/Security Management (Distinction), and OND (Distinction) in Insurance/Risk Management.

I am currently supervising a number of PhD/DBA students. I have examined several PhDs/DBAs and supervised PhDs to completion in my research areas.
