This in-person event problematises a set of practices adopted by conservative social forces to employ anti-discrimination regulations as a tool to delegitimize and criminalise anti-racist advocacy within public discourse.
The event will look at the recent case of Miss Marieha Hussain, who was put on trial alongside four other activists for displaying a satirical placard labelling former prime minster Rishi Sunak and former home secretary Suella Braverman as “coconuts” during a pro-Palestine rally in November 2023. Miss Hussain will be in attendance alongside her lawyer Rajiv Menon.
This event is part of Black History Month.
